Loss of heterozygosity in colorectal cancer

    Get PDF
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common malignancies in the world. The development and progression of CRC is a multistep process, which involves many dietary and environmental factors. A great number of oncogenes, tumour suppressor genes and DNA repair genes contribute to molecular and biological features of CRC, providing us much essential information about the pathogenesis of this disease. Loss of heterozygosity (LOH) of tumour suppressor genes was observed at various loci ondifferent chromosomes like 1p, 1q, 4q, 5q, 8p, 9q, 11q, 12p, 14q, 15q, 17p, 17q, 18p, 18q and 22q in CRCs. In this review, the loss of heterozygosity in patients with colorectal cancer and the interrelationship between tumour suppressor genes and colorectal cancer initiation and progression are discussed

Trap levels in layered semiconductor Ga2SeS

Cataloged from PDF version of article.Trap levels in nominally undoped Ga2SeS layered crystals have been characterized by thermally stimulated current (TSC) measurements. During the measurements, current was allowed to flow along the c-axis of the crystals in the temperature range of 10-300 K. Two distinct TSC peaks were observed in the spectra, deconvolution of which yielded three peaks. The results are analyzed by curve fitting, peak shape and initial rise methods. They all seem to be in good agreement with each other. The activation energies of three trapping centers in Ga2SeS are found to be 72, 100 and 150 meV. The capture cross section of these traps are 6.7 x 10(-23), 1.8 x 10(-23) and 2.8 x 10(-22) cm(2) with concentrations of 1.3 x 10(12), 5.4 x 10(12) and 4.2 x 10(12) cm(-3), respectively. Cataloged from PDF version of article.Thermally stimulated current (TSC) measurements are carried out on nominally undoped Ga4SeS3 layered semiconductor samples with the cur-rent flowing along the c-axis in the temperature range of 10 to 150 K. The results are analyzed according to various methods, such as curve fitting, initial rise and Chen's methods, which seem to be in good agreement with each other. Experimental evidence is found for the presence of three trapping centers in Ga4SeS3 with activation energies of 70, 210 and 357 meV. The calculation yielded 7.9 x 10(-21), 7.0 x 10(-19) and 1.5 x 10(-13) cm(2) for the capture cross section, and 1.6 x 10(10), 6.5 x 10(10) and 1.2 x 10(11) cm(-3) for the concentration of the traps studied. An Alexandrov topology for maximal Cohen-Macaulay modules

Using the theory of cohomology annihilators, we define a family of topologies on the set of isomorphism classes of maximal Cohen-Macaulay modules over a Gorenstein ring. We study compactness of these topologies

Bounds on the dipole moments of the tau-neutrino via the process e+eννˉγe^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow \nu \bar \nu \gamma in a 331 model

We obtain limits on the anomalous magnetic and electric dipole moments of the ντ\nu_{\tau} through the reaction e+eννˉγe^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow \nu \bar \nu \gamma and in the framework of a 331 model. We consider initial-state radiation, and neglect WW and photon exchange diagrams. The results are based on the data reported by the L3 Collaboration at LEP, and compare favorably with the limits obtained in other models, complementing previous studies on the dipole moments.Comment: 13 pages, 4 figures, to be published in The European Physical J C. arXiv admin note: substantial text overlap with arXiv:hep-ph/060527

The effect of supersymmetric CP phases on Chargino-Pair Production via Drell-Yan Process at the LHC

We compute the rates for pp annihilation into chargino-pairs via Drell-Yan process taking into account the effects of supersymmetric soft phases, at proton-proton collider. In particular, the phase of the mu parameter gains direct accessibility via the production of dissimilar charginos. The phases of the trilinear soft masses do not have a significant effect on the cross sections.Comment: 24 pages, 7 figure

Levels of selected minerals, nitric oxide, and vitamins in aborted Sakis sheep raised under semitropical conditions

The serum levels of calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, copper, zinc and iron and of nitric oxide, retinol, and β-carotene were determined in Sakiz ewes that had experienced an abortion and in healthy controls. Ten healthy and 25 aborted Sakiz sheep were selected from Afyon zone in western Turkey. Their ages ranged between 2 and 4 years weighing between 40 and 60 kg at the time of experiment. All of the abortions occurred in October. The concentrations of retinol, β-carotene, phosphorus, and zinc were significantly lower and those of calcium and nitric oxide were increased in aborted ewes relative to healthy controls. The serum levels of iron, copper, and magnesium were not significantly different among the two groups. In conclusion, abortion is an important problem in commercially important species of ruminants in many regions in the tropics including of western Turkey. Deficiencies of retinol, β-carotene, phosphorus and zinc, and the increase of calcium and nitric oxide concentration may play an important role in the etiology of abortion in ewes. Prophylactic measures such as vitamin and mineral supplementation may be of help to prevent or reduce the incidence of abortion in sheep
